Why should I build my own computer? I have heard this quite a few times in my life. Most often the argument is PC (personal computer) building is complicated or time consuming. However this is actually quite far from the truth. All PC parts today are actually built to snap together with little effort. In fact the only tool required to build or modify a PC is a screw driver. As for construction time it probably takes more time to get all of the parts out of the box then it does to assemble them. The most time consuming process when it comes to computers is deciding what you want and finding a place were you can get it.
However all this aside building you own PC has two major benefits that are difficult to ignore.
(1) Price - by doing the labor yourself you save large sums of money on the actual construction. Believe me when I tell you most retailers on average charge more then double the price of the parts.
(2) Performance - Retailers have a tendency to only mention vague features when it comes to computers. This often gives the user false impressions when it comes to buying computers. For example they may mention a system has 2GB RAM. However there are different types of RAM with some running well over 10 times the speed of others. 2GB only implies how much it can hold and not how fast it runs. It is typical for retailers to place slower parts into machines only mentioning the favorable attributes.
The purpose of this blog is to take computer building step by step from shopping for part to assembly. To ensure that you get compatible parts that will run bug free. Later on I will teach you a few tricks to maximize your PC and keep it running like new, and even teach you how to prevent or treat viruses.
Even if after reading this article you choose not to build your own PC I hope you will take one piece of advice with you. Your PC is similar to a three legged race. It can only run as fast as it's slowest member. So there is no point in paying top dollar for high end parts if your going to pair them with bargain bin items.
